Why do I need to hire a general contractor for my remodeling project?
Hiring a qualified general contractor will bring their expertise into the preparation, building, quality control, and completion of your project. It is the best way to ensure your project will proceed in a timely fashion, and with the fewest possible "surprises". Homeowners that run their own jobs tend to not get the same attention and service from subcontractors and suppliers that the qualified general contractor will get. Remember, the homeowner represents only one job for the subcontractor or supplier, while the general contractor represents many jobs. While you may save a little money trying to general contractor your own job, it will be an enormous amount of work, and will most definitely take longer to complete the project.
Do I need a permit for my project and how long does it take?
In most home remodel / addition projects, the answer is, "Yes". However, every building department is different and has their own building guidelines (this varies by town). Every property has a set of zoning requirements that is defined at your local building department. Many of the requirements can be found online or by calling or visiting your city or county building department. We can help you after scheduling a free "in-home estimate" . The length of time it takes to "pull a permit" ultimately depends on your town. Most single story additions can be permitted in one to two weeks. Second story additions will often take 2 or more months.

How do I find a good contractor?
As a homeowner, you need to do your homework. Talk to friends and neighbors that had work done on their homes. Were they satisfied with their completed projects? Make sure that the contractor is licensed and fully insured. Ask for references on the last five jobs and follow up on them: Were they happy with the results? Were the workers respectful and did they leave the job site neat at the end of the day? Did they show up every day? Would you use them again? If the answer is "yes" to all of these questions, you found yourself a good contractor.
